HSR-Power Supply Expert (m/f/d)

We are seeking an experienced HSR-Power Supply Expert to join our High-Speed Rail (HSR) and Mainline Rail engineering team. The position involves the planning, design, and review of traction power supply systems — ensuring reliability, safety, and compliance with the latest international and European standards (EN50119, EN50388, EN50163, etc.).

The expert will play a key role in developing technical solutions and strategies for 25 kV AC electrification systems, SFC technology, autotransformer (AT) feeding schemes, and traction substations for high-speed and mainline projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate all power supply design and engineering activities for HSR and mainline projects.
  • Prepare concept, basic, and detailed designs for traction substations, AT stations, and feeding systems.
  • Define technical specifications for Static Frequency Converters (SFCs), transformers, and switchgear.
  • Ensure full compliance with relevant EN, IEC, and IEEE standards, as well as local regulations.
  • Support system integration with OCS (Overhead Contact System), SCADA, protection, and power quality systems.
  • Conduct load flow, short-circuit, and harmonic studies using modern simulation tools.
  • Review and validate design documents, calculations, and single line diagrams.
  • Support tender preparation, cost estimation, and technical evaluation of suppliers.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including OCS, SCADA, RAMS, and Civil Interfaces.
  • Provide technical support during installation, testing, and commissioning.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in railway power supply or traction power systems, with at least 5 years in high-speed or mainline electrified rail projects.
  • Proven experience with 25 kV AC systems, 1x25 kV and 2x25 kV autotransformer systems, and SFC-based traction substations.
  • Strong understanding of EN standards (EN 50163, EN 50388, EN 50119, EN 50122) and IEC frameworks.
  • Familiarity with power system design software such as ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, or PSCAD.
  • Excellent command of English (written and spoken).
  • Team-oriented mindset with strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience with international HSR projects (Europe, Asia, or the Middle East).
  • Knowledge of renewable integration or energy efficiency measures in traction power.
  • Chartered Engineer or equivalent professional certification.
  • Experience in client interfacing, tendering, or consulting roles.
